In this issue, Scotty has invented a device he calls a
photon trap, basically a personal cloaking device, able to
bend light around an area of several feet so that anything
within the blind is invisible to outside eyes. Scotty says
he considered calling the device "Cheshire Cat", but thought it a bit unwieldy.
This is a reference to the
character of the Cheshire cat in Lewis Carroll's 1865 novel
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, who is able to
turn invisible.
Science Officer Amos is said to be a recent transfer to the
Enterprise from the Endeavor. A number of
Starfleet ships of various classes
called Endeavor have been seen in other licensed Star
Trek stories in the past.
Sulu's log states that Lt. Cordry is rumored to have taken
down a fully grown sehlat with her bare hands on a
trip to Vulcan. A sehlat is a large, bear-like creature
found on Vulcan. Spock was known to have a pet sehlat as a
youth in the original timeline, as seen in the animated
series episode "Yesteryear".
"When Worlds Collide" seems to imply that this may not
have been the case in the current timeline.
Page 9 reveals that the photon trap blind also mutes sound
coming from behind it.
On page 10, an artist's mistake appears to place a moon in
front of some clouds in the sky!
