The Romulans commence an attack against the
Vulcan fleet.
Story Summary
The Romulan fleet arrives at Ceti Alpha V and commences with an
attack against the assembled Vulcan fleet. The Vulcans are
losing badly when the Enterprise arrives and begins
blasting the Romulan attack ships due to the Romulan fleet
having crossed the neutral zone into Federation space. Soon,
other Starfleet ships join the fray and the Romulans are forced
to retreat. But the ship piloted by the former Narada
crewmembers Arix and Rella stays behind to carry out its mission
of igniting the red matter among the Vulcan fleet. However, Arix has
second thoughts about all the death and tragedy he has witnessed
and been a part of and instead pulls their ship away from the conflict and
detonates it and themselves a safe distance away.
Later, on the surface of Ceti Alpha V, Spock uses a mind-meld to
show the Vulcan elders the doomed future of the planet,
convincing them to abandon their thoughts of placing a colony
there. A year later, New Vulcan is established on the second
planet of system Simon-316.
3,000 years later, a Vulcan father shows his daughter a statue
of one of the greatest of all Vulcans...a man called Spock.

On page 3, the female former crewmember of the Narada
who was referred to as Vella in
"Legacy of Spock" Part 3,
is here called Rella instead.
The design of the cockpit and station chairs of Arix and
Rella's ship on page 3 appear to be that of a Starfleet ship
circa the original ST movies, yet they are seen to be
piloting a Romulan security shuttle (on page 9)!

The Vulcan seen on page 5, panel 2 is wearing the IDIC
(Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations) symbol on his
tunic.
Page 14 reveals that Kirk remembers some details of the
future of the Prime timeline due to the mind-meld he shared
with Spock-Prime in "The
Vengeance of Nero".
In 2259, New Vulcan is established on the second planet of
system Simon-316. Possibly the writer named the planet after
Simon Pegg, the actor who plays Scotty in the new movies and
who was also the co-scripter of Star Trek Beyond.
The last two pages of the story take place 3,000 years
later, as a Vulcan father shows his daughter a statue of
Spock in the desert of New Vulcan and introduces him as one
of the greatest of all Vulcans.
The story ends with a dedication: In memory of Leonard Nimoy
1931-2015. Nimoy, of course, played Spock in the original ST
TV series and movies.
