Didja Know?
This issue does not have an official title,
but was called "The Voice of a Falling Star" in the trade
paperback compilation in which it was reprinted, so I've placed
that name here. In the original study I made of the issue, I
titled it "The Last Conversation", inspired by a line of dialog
in the story.
Notes from the Star Trek
Chronology
This story establishes the beginning of the
romantic relationship between Uhura and Spock at Starfleet
Academy. The story must take place some time after the events of
the Starfleet Academy youth novels, where we saw the
hint of an attraction develop between them, (see
The Edge,
The Delta Anomaly,
The Gemini Agent, and
The Assassination Game).
Didja Notice?
Page 3 reveals that Uhura has a taste for Rokeg blood pie.
This is a Klingon dish seen or mentioned in various episodes
of the Next Generation era ST TV series.
This story reveals that Spock and Uhura have experienced a
mind meld together during a Vulcan courting ritual called
emafa kito.
For some reason, the image of Uhura as a little girl from
page 7, panel 3 is seen on the right-hand edge of page 4,
panel 1, except in a red-colored outfit instead of blue.
Some kind of a misprint?
Page 5 reveals that Uhura has an Uncle Raheem. Was he the
husband of Aunt Uhnu, mentioned in
The Delta Anomaly?
On page 7, Raheem announces the shuttle was damaged by a
meteorite. He probably should use the term "meteor" instead
because "meteorite" is technically a term reserved only for
meteors that survive impact with a planet.
